Transcription reduction

There are three ways to reduce transcriptions:

1. Increase PowerNote use with keyboard data entry

Advantages

• Can pull in information from other parts of the medical record
• Easy to copy-and-paste previous notes
• Can include user-specific templates that can be modified with minimal effort

Disadvantages

• Requires logging into a desktop computer
• Any significant patient-specific data entry is more time-consuming than voice-recognition

2. Increase PowerNote use with voice-recognition data entry

Advantages

• Can pull in information from other parts of the medical record
• Easy to copy-and-paste previous notes
• Can include user-specific templates that can be modified with minimal effort
• Voice-recognition simplifies

Disadvantages

• Requires logging into a desktop computer
• Any significant patient-specific data entry is more time-consuming than voice-recognition
• Voice-recognition technology only available when the user is at a hospital
• More expensive than using PowerNotes with direct data entry

3. Increase Cerner Inpatient app use with voice-recognition data entry

Advantages

• The fastest way to log into the electronic medical record
• Could also address other adoption challenges including computerized physician order entry
• Voice-recognition technology superior to Advocate's desktop versions

Disadvantages

• Cannot pull in information from other parts of the medical record beyond Cerner's predefined templates (e.g., latest vital signs and visit problems for progress notes; past medical/family/social history and medications for consult notes)
• No ability to create user-specific templates
• More expensive than using PowerNotes with direct data entry

Requests to improve PC Touch Adoption

• Would like to append a note after it has been saved.
• Too many steps to get an H&P loaded into the application.
• Need to clarify the process of copying and pasting sections of a note.
• Would like to pull in laboratory values and radiology results like PowerNotes.

• Get access for ED physicians.

• Set a corporate date for turning off progress notes.

  • Disable the transcription work type.
  • Disable the progress note templates that are available in CareConnection (already done at a couple of sites).
  • Set a date (possibly July 1).
